Mobility is a tool. The real goal is freedom to join family life, adventures, recreation, and community experiences.
Mobility can help someone move. Inclusion determines whether they get to join.
The real goal is what becomes possible: a family trip, a day at a theme park, a sporting event, a school activity, a neighborhood adventure, or a moment when a child participates instead of watching from the sidelines.
Access Is About Participation
For a child living with Duchenne, the environment and the way an experience is planned can determine whether a place feels welcoming and reachable.
Grass, gravel, sand, uneven paths, transportation, entrances, seating, and schedules can all become barriers. Thoughtful accessibility and planning can turn those barriers into opportunities to join in.
Beyond the Pavement focuses on those meaningful experiences. It is not a replacement for Medicaid, insurance, clinicians, or general medical-equipment programs.
Childhood Should Still Feel Like Childhood
A diagnosis changes many things for a family. It should not erase adventure, celebration, recreation, friendship, or time together.
Children deserve opportunities to explore their interests, experience new places, and be part of the moments other families may take for granted.
Adventure Looks Different for Every Family
Adventure may mean reaching the beach with family, enjoying a campground, attending an outdoor event, visiting a park, traveling somewhere new, or simply crossing a field to join friends.
The experience is personal. The principle is universal: every child deserves the opportunity to participate and belong.
